Description

A simple and delicious homemade bread recipe that yields a soft, golden crust and fluffy interior.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons yeast
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 cup liquid warm water and milk
  • 2 tablespoons softened butter

Instructions

  1. The dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl – 3 cups flour, 2 teaspoons yeast, 2 tablespoons sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt. Whisk them together to ensure even distribution.
  2. The liquid to about 110°F (44°C) – I like to use 3/4 cup water and 1/4 cup milk for the perfect texture. The liquid should feel warm to the touch but not hot.
  3. The warm liquid mixture and 2 tablespoons oil to the dry ingredients. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough starts coming together and pulling away from the sides of the bowl.
  4. The dough on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. The dough should spring back when you press it with your finger.
  5. The dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 45 minutes or until doubled in size. This rise time is crucial for developing those airy pockets inside.
  6. Down the risen dough and shape it into a loaf. Transfer it to a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan and brush the top with 1 tablespoon of the softened butter.
  7. The shaped dough to rise again for 30 minutes until it crowns just above the rim of the pan. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. For 25-30 minutes until golden brown and hollow-sounding when tapped on the bottom. Brush the hot loaf with the remaining tablespoon of butter for a soft, shiny crust before cooling.

Notes

  • Ensure the warm liquid feels warm but not hot to prevent killing the yeast.
  • The longer the dough rises, the fluffier the bread will be.
  • Store any leftover bread in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
