- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup cooking oil (vegetable or canola)
- 4 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ cup flour (for the gravy)
- 2 cups whole milk
- red pepper flakes to taste (optional)
Instructions
- Tenderize the beef round steak with a meat mallet until about half an inch thick. Season both sides with salt and pepper.
- Set up three shallow bowls: one with seasoned flour, one with beaten eggs mixed with buttermilk, and the last with plain flour.
- Dip each steak into flour, then egg mixture, and back into flour for an even coating.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Fry each steak for 4-5 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
- For the gravy, reduce heat to medium-low, melt butter in the same skillet, whisk in flour until combined, then slowly add milk while whisking until thickened. Season as desired.
